This year we are off to Scandinavia for Christmas and New Years. The trip started with the flight through Miami then off to Helsinki. Helsiniki Airport appears to be going under a huge construction project. It was 30 F and we had to get off down a stair case to catch a bus to the terminal. We received our first burst of Christmas Joy with watching one of Santa Clauses helpers and his fellow elf go through customs. Apparently helpers don't get their own sleigh. The outfit was so festive. There were real leather boots that looked super comfortable an a long white curly beard that reached to his belt. His elf helper was busy fending off the paparazzi that wanted a photo.
Right before leaving security we hit the bathroom. The only reason I mention this is the strangest thing ever was bird chirping over the bathroom speakers. Just a soft mellow bird chirp that faded in and out. Wonder what the benefit that brings. So after all that excitement we walk out the magic security doors and as they open this soft silent night music drifts you into Finland. It was not in English but you can't mistake the toon. It was really quite festive.
A short train ride and a maze of 7 doors and 1 elevator ride we made it to our apartment around 4:30 and the sun was already down. Last adventure for this full day of travel was the Christmas market for a quick stroll before bed. The market was full of vendors that sold a lot of warm cloths like scarves, hats and socks. They looked real itchy but definitely warm. The streets were buzzing and all the parks in the area were lit up beutifully
This particular picture if from Stockmann's. It is a department store that had a Christmas display in the window. It had fuzzy bunnies and other animals all frolicking in the snow. It was animated with the gondola moving across the window.
