Day 5 : Munich

We started the day watching the clock tick noon.  We missed the 11 o'clock by  10 minutes because of my navigational skills.  Whoops.  Anyway the clock chimes at a bit after the hour fist with music then the people start rotating at the end of the top people is a joust where one guy gets knock back.  Oooo the excitement.  Anyway the section below starts dancing when the joust is done and the a chicken or something ends the show.  Pretty neat for a clock.

Next stop the country residence which at one point was on the outside of town, now it's just team number 17 from our hotel.  The palace was massive and as usually reading about this royal and that it's hard to know which did what.  The most memorable room was a room with portraits of women,  all seeming similar.  Come to find out the mad king Ludwig had a thing for you women of a certain look and he commissioned the painter to paint a bunch of them.  They ranged from princesses to a shoe makers daughter.  The one thing I noticed was symatry in the hair.  The style was parted down the middle with curles or some style the same on each side.

Anyway from here off to a bier haus for early dinner.  The place seemed packed so we asked a waiter where to sit.  He suggested next to an older gentleman eating alone.  They are booths that seat 6 to 8.  Anyway he didn't say much at first but then started talking a bit in decent English.  He had been to New York in the 60s.  Now he just rides his scooter around town.  He mentioned something about UFOs and that American cars are better than the german cars.  He was sniffing snuff the whole time, which I had some strange idea it looked like he was sniffing cinnamon.  He talked a bit about Ludwig being mad as well as Kissinger being evil.  At the end of our meal he bought us all a shot of schnapps.  Always makes for a great trip talking to the locals.

Next stop was walking the Christmas market,  looking at what glasses each drink kiosk has to decide if i wanted the souvenirs.  Ended up with 3 from the Munich market.  We also stopped to try on liederhosen and found a fun one but when we went to pay they said cash only up to 150.  Really I'm about to spend 80 euro and you want me to pay cash. This wasn't a small boutique or anything.  Oh well I didn't have the cash so said sorry no thanks, guess I'll have to wait on that outfit.

Two more gluehwein and a Nutella banana crepe I'm over it.  We saw a few animated stuffed animals in one of the store windows.  Very cute.

Finals view of the night was this stats ge tower between two new all glass office buildings.  Very out of place.  Anyway off to see some fantasy castle tomorrow, maybe we'll finally see snow.  Here's hoping.
