Day 7 : Schwangau (Christmas Eve)

Christmas eve, yay.  So today was all about the shopping, but even with shopping there are new adventures.  First stop was the butcher shop right next door to our apartment.  They didn't speak english so I was able to use my limited german to say "kuh" or cow.  She then pointed to steaks so i used the gesture move and showed a big round thing.  She got it and came out with a roast.  yay us!

Next stop the grocery store, we went over to Fussen to checkout their stores as something different.  We stopped at a couple different ones and then stopped in the down town area to walk around Fussen.  It seems like a tourist ski town, except no snow.  But we did see this church called St Mang that was a monastery or something at some point.  It was kinda neat in the drawn details.

We made one last stop back at the butcher to checkout their vending machine.  In the vending machine it had eggs, butter, coke, sausage.  So we bought butter cause we could use it and because we wanted to see it in action.  We had these thoughts in our head that as they were trying to build this unit for eggs the experiments they must have ran and the scrambled eggs they likely ended up with.

Before dinner we took a walk over to the ski lifts down the road, they had a play ground and a few patches of the white stuff.  One of the neat things they had was a hydraulic crane that you could pickup dirt and move it around.  It had all the levers you would think a real one would have, Quinn was doing pretty well.

Final adventure for the night was back at St Mang, we decided to go to evening mass for christmas.  It was a packed house but no one took their coat off, you would think 200+ people would warm up a place but guess that solid rock and airy room just would not let that happen.  They had the organ going as it billowed thru the room, plus an accompanying orchestra.  When that an the singers were going its like it filled all the empty air with music.  pretty cool.  The one notable oddity in this mass was at the beginning it was just candle light to start the mass.  Then about 20 minutes into it they bring out a small king looking doll and prance him around the church and turning on the lights.  Must say i haven't seen that before.
