San Juan is the 24th of June. But this weekend they have had some early festivities because San Juan in on a Tuesday and not everyone has it off.
So Saturday, they started the day with decorating t-shirts and other things. Next they took to the streets dancing and asking for water. Of course the water comes over the balconies down on the kids via water bottles or buckets. From house to house they go. Quinn was drenched but having a grand time. They ended the procession in the plaza where they were given ice cream.
In the evening they had fire near the fountains and they burned everything they could get their hands on. It was a nice size fire.
After the fire back to the plaza for music and soccer. The elders also had a game of Bingo going after their shared meal. Quinn made it home at around 1:30am.
On Sunday, they celebrated Corpse Christi. In the morning they made decorative rugs to greet the body of Christ as it was shown around town. In the houses down the procession route shawls, blankets or rugs were hung from the balconys. The priest carried the body of Christ while 6 or 8 men carried a shade above.
The rest of the day the usual. Lunch, nap, walk about, dinner, and bed.
On Tuesday, the day of San Juan we started the day with a mass. In mass they had a mariachi band. It was a great sound system when the guy would sing. Quinn and the kids came in! The funny part was the bench fits 4 adults cofrtable. The kids all decided to sit on one bench, must have been about 7 of them.
After mass they took San Juan around to see the town. They had some mini fireworks. Mostly noise makin ones. Then the band played and a couple danced.
After the show we went to the bar to have a drink and then off to lunch.
At 4pm they had inflatable stuff and music. Kids running around and having a grand time under cover of the hand ball court. Me hiding in a corner as the rain pours down just watching.
At almost 7 they had chocolate in the plaza followed my a mariachi concert in the church. It's cold and rainy out but inside was great watching the show.
Quinn was drenched from running around and has this whatsup app installed and keeps chatting with all the kids. Mostly girls from what I could tell.
Tomorrow off to Leon.
