Stage 12 : Grañón to Villafranca Montes de Oca

Today's walk was basically flat with a slight ascent.  Thru some very small and quiet towns.Today we walked 27 km.  I switched out my hiking boots for tennis.  The boots were getting my feet too hot.  We also left any extra warm cloths behind to try and reduce weight.

The legs were ok but the feet tell me I weigh too much and they don't like hauling my sorry butt around.

We started off at 7:30am.  A beautiful morning.

As we leave Grañón a sign reminds us of the journey ahead.

Now I have been to a lot of areas around Grañón but surprisingly I have never gone this way or to Redecilla which is our first stop.  Today's walk takes us thru wheat and barley fields.  Through small very unpopulated towns.

Except for Belorado this place was a decent size.  The church was pretty cool, in this pic you can barley see but off to the left the church goes into the clift.  Above it are some ruins for an old castle or something.

This was some cool art work while passing thru Belorado.

Oh and the local gym.  There were three sets of older people, one doing a bicycle, another a leg press and not sure what the other contraption was.

Nice old bridge as we leave town.  Not pictured here is a nice park with a bunch of people enjoying their Saturday afternoon.

Few towns later there was another church built into the mountain.  We may come back here later and check it out.

I really liked the look of this church.  I think it's the shape that seemed unique.

Another little creek with a bridge so we don't have to get wet.  Much apreciated.

As we approached our destination the winds picked up.  The waves of wheat were so cool to see. The waves have this grace.  Likes waves that don't come crashing down. But they all go different directions.  Finally we reached our destination and this is the view from our hotel room.

Tomorrow we head toward Burgos.  Not sure how far our feet will take us.

I am glad to hear you were able to take some of the weight off your backs. Twenty seven km is a long way to go. You are so brave! I too loved the look of both churches tucked into the cliffs. The second one looks like the ruins behind it could be prehistoric. Maybe not, but how cool is that?
